"A clinical-grade treatment that lifts the shade of natural enamel."
Whitening
Whitening is a clinical procedure that lifts the shade of natural tooth enamel. The treatment uses a professional-strength bleaching gel, held against the teeth by custom-fitted trays made from a digital scan of your mouth.
Whitening works on natural enamel only. Crowns, veneers, white fillings, and other restorations don't change shade with treatment. It isn't suitable for every patient, which is why we begin with a full assessment of your teeth, gums, and existing restorations.

Whitening, custom-fitted and clinically supervised.
Professional whitening uses a clinical-strength bleaching gel held against the teeth by custom-fitted trays, made from a digital scan of your mouth. The trays fit precisely, which means the gel sits against the enamel and not the gum line, and the dose is controlled from the start.
For our standard whitening, you wear the trays at home, usually overnight, over around two weeks. The shade lifts gradually as the treatment progresses. We see you for a review at the end to check the result against the starting shade.
At West End Dental we offer two whitening options. Our standard whitening uses a professional-strength gel in custom trays and produces the result most patients are looking for. For patients wanting the deepest, most predictable lift, Enlighten Evolution is a premium tier with an enhanced pathway. Your clinician will explain both at consultation.
- Custom-fitted trays made from a digital scan
- Professional-strength gel, supervised by your clinician
- Both upper and lower arches included as standard
- Standard and Enlighten Evolution tiers available

Whitening suits most adult patients.
Whitening is suitable for most adults with healthy teeth and gums who are looking to lift the shade of their natural enamel. A consultation ensures your teeth and gums are healthy enough to begin, and that the result you're hoping for is realistic for your starting shade.
- Adults with healthy teeth and gums.
- General yellowing or darkening from age, diet, or surface staining.
- Patients wanting a controlled, gradual change at home.
- Realistic expectations about how white natural enamel can go.
- Patients under 18.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Significant active decay or untreated gum disease (we treat the cause first).
- Visible crowns, veneers, or fillings on front teeth, which won't change shade with whitening.
- Intrinsic staining from tetracycline or similar, which may respond less predictably.
- Very sensitive teeth, where we plan around this with a desensitising protocol.
