"Being an extremely nervous patient, she immediately put me at ease and explained everything. It was late in the day but I never felt rushed."
Are you avoiding the dentist?
You're not the only one. Many of our patients were nervous the first time they came to us. Some hadn't been to a dentist in years.
If this is you, you're not the only one.
People put off dental appointments for many different reasons. Sometimes it's a difficult experience years ago, sometimes a fear of being judged for the state of their teeth, sometimes simply a dislike of the sounds and smells. Whatever has kept you away, most of our nervous patients are surprised to learn how many others feel exactly the same.
We'll go at your pace. We'll explain everything before we do it.
We make the same commitments to every nervous patient.
You stay in control
Raise your hand and we stop. No examination or procedure continues without your active agreement, no matter where we are in the appointment.
Everything is explained before we begin
You will know what we are going to do, why, what it will feel like, and how long it will take. Nothing happens without that conversation first.
You know the cost before you commit
Every fee is agreed in writing in advance, and the only treatment you pay for is treatment you have said yes to.
We move at your pace
Some appointments are quick, others ask for more from you, and we listen for the difference. If you need to slow down, take a break or stop entirely, you only need to say. We never let the schedule decide what you can manage.
We don't judge how long it's been
Many of our nervous patients haven't been to a dentist in years. None of them have been judged for it. Wherever you're starting from, we begin with the mouth in front of us, not the time that's passed.
Your first appointment is just a conversation.
We don't begin any treatment unless you agree to it. Most first visits are spent talking, planning together, and looking gently if you're ready.
You arrive, and that's the hardest part.
Reception greets you by name. No clipboard handed over the moment you sit down. No pressure to fill anything in you haven't already done online. If you'd like to wait somewhere quieter than the main reception, just say.
We sit down and listen.
We talk about what's been bothering you, what you've avoided, what you'd like to be different. We won't ask you to open your mouth unless you want us to. If you'd rather have your partner, friend or family member sit with you, they can.
You decide what happens next.
If you'd like a check-up that day, we can do one. If you'd rather come back, that's fine too. You'll leave with a written plan, every step explained, every cost agreed in advance.
If sedation would help, it's here.
IV sedation is delivered by dental surgeons with specific sedation training or our Consultant Anaesthetist team. You stay conscious and able to respond, but feel calm and detached from the appointment. Most patients have little memory of the procedure afterwards. It's an excellent option for severe dental anxiety, gag reflex issues, or for people who simply prefer not to be aware of the treatment.
Our clinical team will review whether it's right for you. There's no pressure to have sedation - many of our patients find that a warm welcome, a clear explanation, and a team that doesn't rush them goes a long way on its own.
IV sedation is available at our Colwyn Bay practice only. Additional fees apply.
From people who used to feel exactly the same.
"A tooth extraction. I was very nervous beforehand. The whole thing was far less traumatic than I had feared."
"I get very stressed even thinking of the dentist, like a lot of people do, hence I haven't been for many years. They were great with me, friendly and supportive. That is all behind me now."
You will stop dreading the dentist.
Once you're with us
However long it's been since your last appointment, we adapt our care to your pace. Most nervous patients find each visit becomes easier than the last.

Questions people often ask before their first visit.
Many of our patients hadn't either. Some hadn't been in over a decade. There's no judgement, no scolding, no lecture. We pick up from where you are now and work forward.
Yes. They can sit with you in reception, in the consultation, or both, whichever helps. If you'd rather have a friend on the phone for the call to book, we'll work with that too.
All three are fine. We will stop, we will wait, and we won't carry on until you say so. Some of our patients find their first appointment easier when they know in advance that they can leave at any point. They almost never do, but knowing they can changes everything.
Yes. That's the single thing our patients praise us for most often. Being told what's happening, why, and what it'll feel like, before it happens. It's standard practice here, not a special accommodation.
No. We don't treat on the first visit unless it's a genuine emergency, and only ever with your consent. The first visit is for understanding what brought you to us and planning the care that's right for you.
IV sedation is available at our Colwyn Bay practice and is delivered by dental surgeons with specific sedation training or by our Consultant Anaesthetist team. Additional charges apply. Many nervous patients find they don't need sedation once they've experienced our approach, but it remains an option for those who want it.
Nothing. Your first appointment is free. There's no obligation to come back, no commitment to treatment, and no pressure to decide on the day.
The first step is free.
Your first visit is for talking, planning, and looking gently if you're ready. With your consent, your dentist may also do a brief examination on the day. No treatment without your active agreement.
